Farm Description

This 1900'S New England Farmhouse sits high above the Orange River and offers over 700' of shorefront. The home has been updated to today's standards and a lovely addition with gas fireplace has added. A sunroom was also added where one can sit and soak up the winter sun to help fight the winter blues. There is a small bath off the first floor bedroom.

The cozy kitchen is centrally located to the dining room, living room, and master bedroom with bath on the first floor. A foyer closet accommodates the stackable washer and dryer and accesses the country porch on the front of the home. The second floor has a nice landing large enough for a small library and reading area. Two bedrooms and a full bath all expand off this central landing. The home has undergone many updates-a replacement septic system with leach field was installed in 2009, that same year a new Hot Air propane furnace was installed, and in 2016 the additions were added and a metal roof installed.

Outside you will find perennial gardens, paths thru the land, a screened in deck near the waterfront, a large workshop and a bunk house. The screened in deck is great for entertaining - with the roar of the river flowing by, a kitchen area for cooking and tables to enjoy your meals with friends. Great place to unwind and enjoy great friends. The workshop is about 1200 sq. feet with several bays - one for painting, one for making and one to display your crafts. There is a small 200 sq. ft. bunkhouse that can be used for guests wanting their own space at night. Great Location for Home Business.

The town of Whiting is a small town of approximately 54 sq. miles of rural and coastal homes. The term you can't get there from here seems to fit this town as the town is divided between the coastal homes along Rt. 191S and the inland and lakefront homes on and around Rt. 1 some 15 miles or so away - unless of course you go as the crow flies bushwacking thru the brush and trees between the two roads. Along with the coastal land along Holmes Bay, there are numerous lakes and streams in and around Rt. 1. Indian, Orange, Rocky and Roaring Lakes and part of Gardner Lake are located in Whiting as is Mill Pond and Mill Pond Dam. You don't have to travel far for some good fishing.

Access to Sunrise Trails, an 85-mile multi-use trail built along a former rail corridor runs from Washington Junction in Hancock to Ayers Junction in Pembroke, is just up the road next to the town office. It is ideal for snowmobiling, ATVing, walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing and horseback riding and is open year-round.

Washington County is a lot of things. It is the most gorgeous, has the deepest cargo port, the longest coastline including the Bold Coast, the highest tides, and produces the most lobster and clam landings. What Washington County does not have is lots of traffic lights only three in the whole county, an interstate, a Red Lobster Restaurant, or poisonous snakes. Known as the Sunrise County, Washington County welcomes the first rays of sun to shine on the US each day. With tides averaging between 18-22' the bold, salt-sprayed shoreline of Downeast Maine offers deserted beaches, quiet hiking trails, rugged cliffs and unnamed beauty. Truly, one of the last frontiers on the Eastern seaboard, one doesn't have to go far to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. With 2 cities, 44 towns and a population of approximately 32,000, Washington County is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. A great place to live and play - for a season or a lifetime.
