Lost River Ranch
Utica, MT 59447
Judith Basin County, Montana

Farm Description
The ranch is situated on the east slope of the Little Belt mountains along the Judith River. The area is rich in western culture, lore and history. The region was home and inspiration for much of Charlie Russell's western art. He spent his formative years here trapping and night-hawking for area ranches. The ranch location and In-holding recreation potential lend a unique character to the property. The main ranch terrain is varied. Cottonwoods bracket the Judith River and diamond willows line the springs crossing the hay meadows. The red cliffs overlooking the ranch are a scenic backdrop for the grazing land that alternates from pine covered ridges to rolling hills and ravines. There are good water rights and a serviceable pivot irrigation system, partially underground, some piped above ground. The main ranch is minutes from the forest service road access to the 120 acre In-holdings, but the road is challenging and pickup truck traffic is limited to summertime. The ride in however, is always worth it. Fording the river in the limestone canyons of the Judith offers spectacular scenery and breathtaking views, whether on horseback, ATV, snowmobile or in a four wheel drive. Deer, elk and antelope have been taken on the property in recent years and there is decent fishing in the river. There can also be an occasional visit from a moose, mountain lion or bear.
