The Fossil View cabin is a three-story log structure situated on a historic mining claim about 27 miles northeast of Gunnison. Including the basement, there are three levels with a total of 3,000 square feet, four bedrooms, and two and one half baths. Set up as a retreat property, the bedrooms and extra spaces are set up with bunks to sleep 15. The cabin is an off-grid retreat with its own 1,400-Watt solar power system, Kohler 12-kw generator, and cistern supplied by a neighboring spring. The home is warm and inviting, with finishes rarely found in a mountain cabin, including granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, custom antler chandelier, custom log dining table, tile and wood floors, warm and bright aspen paneling, living room theater, hot-water glycol propane-fired baseboard heat supplementing the wood stove, and a finished basement. The home even includes a ceiling venting system to push warm air from the eve of the living room to the basement bedrooms. The expansive decks are built from durable Trex decking.
